The Brief
Hybrid Television Services, the exclusive licensee of the TiVo® media device in Australia and New Zealand, sought to extend the TiVo media device’s program scheduling functionality to the web and mobile platforms.
They approached Raw Ideas with a concept in which consumers could remotely browse and search through the TiVo channels available in their region, select the shows that they would like to record on their TiVo, set up recurring recordings for an entire show or series and set their TiVo recording preferences on the fly.
Solution
Raw Ideas developed a system that incorporates a central scheduling engine that takes data feeds from third-party scheduling providers.
This data is then presented to the consumer in a familiar and intuitive ‘time grid’ format, allowing them to browse through the schedule with easy drag and click navigation, display details about each show and select shows to record.
The interface features ‘One Click Record’ buttons to easily record a single episode or to Season Pass™ an entire season.
The system interfaces with the central Hybrid Television Services platform, which transmits the record request directly to the TiVo media device and provides a recording result to TiVo Genie.
TiVo Genie then displays a queue of all recording requests and their result, so the user is always in tune with their recording schedule.
To cater for TiVo subscribers who are on the move, the system was also developed with a mobile component, allowing them to search and record shows using their mobile web browser.
The system has been successfully deployed in Australia and New Zealand with overwhelmingly positive reviews.
Raw Ideas continues to provide technical monitoring and support for TiVo Genie.
